Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game

Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game

”Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not.” —Uncle Iroh

Wise words, but ones very relevant to today. We live in a world where we are isolated and cut off from adventure, companions and life itself. But is the latter really disconnected from us? Or do we need that extra motivation to bring it back? Move over Dungeons & Dragons, there’s a new Tabletop coming this way – and role-playing this will hit us right in the childhood feels. Welcome to Avatar Legends; a Roleplaying Game of element-bending nostalgia.

What To Expect of Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game

Your very childhood brought to life. You would be lying if you said you didn’t imagine yourself in the Avatar universe. But now that imagination will come true. You will experience a game of not only heroism and adventure but balance. Specifically, you will face threats both external and internal – all as you discover spirituality and inner peace, in a multitude of ways.

No matter your background, your skill, or your power – your personal goals and motivations are the key to unlocking your true self. Diplomacy or force, forgiveness or hatred, tradition or progress; whatever the choice, choose decisively. Consequently, the game notes the importance of balance, as falling on one side can have negative repercussions. Role-playing this will require you to attune to your balance and reflect that onto your character.

Avatar Legends

This Roleplaying Game features various backgrounds and archetypes of characters for the player to integrate into the universe. No matter who you are, you will be critical to the story. Want to be the chaotic firebender looking for peace? The soldier retired from war and looking for adventure? The cabbage merchant or tech wizard looking for a purpose? In the words of Zuko:Never forget who you are, for surely the world won’t”. Your differing strengths and stories bond together the team’s synergy.

Additionally, the story will never be the same no matter how many campaigns you play. Your place in the universe will depend on which era the GM picks. That means players can experience 5 different worlds and timelines. This includes the Kyoshi era, the Roku era, the Hundred Year War, the Aang era, and the Korra era.

Product Overview of Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game

Avatar Legends is the officially licensed TableTop Roleplaying Game based on the Nickelodeon cartoon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.  Moreover, it uses the Powered by the Apocalypse framework, which has been used by Magpie Games in some of their other products. This adaptation breathes the feel and power of the TV series into the world of imagination, storytelling, and role-playing.

The product is the actual core book of the game, which details the rules, additional info, and character creation. The base tier of the Kickstarter is Fire Ferret, which grants a PDF copy of the core book plus any PDF-based stretch goals reached. Going along the other tiers will grant more items such as:

  • Winged lemur – Grants a physical copy of the corebook as well as rewards from the Fire Ferret tier.
  • Otter-penguin – Includes all the physical stretch goals alongside rewards from the Winged Lemur tier.
  • Polar bear dog – Gives you a special edition cover of the corebook rather than the base one. The special edition features the Avatar’s Aang and Korra, which can be arranged for one to be on the front cover and the other on the back. This also includes rewards from the Otter Penguin.

Our Opinion

Unfortunately, I was never really an Avatar fan growing up, but I know the impact it had on people. A fandom like this would have been impacted by that show greatly; through its episodes, characters, and escapism. As a TTRPG fan myself, I am incredibly thrilled that this show is getting an official role-playing experience. Avatar fans can now be a part of that world and tell their own stories – BE their own characters in that world.

The current funding of the project is proof of how hyped this product is. Moreover, we know that transitioning this beloved show into a TTRPG will bring fans together and individuals out of their comfort zone through their shared love of the show. We hope this product gives as much impact to Avatar fans as DnD has on my love of fantasy.
